Abstract

Behavior change technologies are nowadays widely applied to promote healthy lifestyles and improve the management of chronic diseases. Research and Innovation solutions in the area of eCoaching for health and wellbeing can inform public health policies to promote citizens’ empowerment and disease prevention in the large scale. However, the design of smart coaching solutions for the different application domains (healthcare, education, workplace, sport, etc.) remains a challenge, since sound theoretical models and evaluation studies are needed to realize and assess their concrete impact. The main objective of the workshop is to bring together novel contributions on the design and assessment of smart coaching solutions for health and wellbeing that are intended or already deployed in the large scale for producing a strong impact in their application settings.

Scope and Topics

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, healthcare specialists, key decision-makers in educational and public health institutions, currently involved or interested in the design of smart coaching solutions for health and wellbeing. Innovative contributions on the following topics are particularly welcome:

● Large-scale studies of eCoaching systems and solutions for public health

● eCoaching solutions for Resilience-based interventions

● Embodied conversational agents as virtual health coaches

● Health conversational agents

● Deep learning based health dialogue systems

● Assistive robots

● Virtual coaching in chronic diseases prevention, diagnosis, management and control

● Assistive eCoaching for caregivers

● Persuasive health coaching applications

● Data analytics and machine learning for persuasion profiling

● Intelligent coaching for active ageing

● Socially assistive robots in elderly care

  • March 30th, 2018: Deadline for paper submissions to Workshop
  • April 15th, 2018: Workshop paper notification
  • April 22nd, 2018: Deadline for Camera ready submission
  • May 21st, 2018: Workshop day

Expected Outcomes:

The expected result of the Workshop is the identification of the key challenges and opportunities for designing and deploying smart coaching solutions in health & wellbeing scenarios. In a short term the results of the workshop are intended to be published in a relevant journal to share with the larger community the views of the participants and contributors to the workshop. In the longer term, the recommendations on relevant opportunities and challenges on this field will be integrated in coming years Pervasive Health Conferences topics of interest.

Organizers

Silvia Gabrielli, PhD is senior researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (Italy), working with the High Impact Initiative on Health&Wellbeing. Silvia’s current research is focused on the design of smart coaching solutions for resilience based interventions in the young (EU H2020 Project UPRIGHT) and personalized eCoaching interventions for chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, eating disorders, mood disorders) in a stepped care approach.

Kate Marie, is the founder of IASO Health and co-author of several initiatives in the area of Slow Aging interventions and technologies.
